Today about Poland, namely Szczecin. Rose garden is a beautiful park in
the middle of Szczecin, but still quiet enough that it became a favorite place
of young fresh mothers with sleeping children in the stroller.
Rose garden (known in Szczecin as "Różanka") is a 2 ha garden
created by Germans in 1928. In 1935 garden has been enriched by Bird Fountain with sculptures of birds by Kurt Schwerdtfeger.
Garden in the original shape survived until the 70's and
provide a shadow and quiet atmosphere for the citizens of Szczecin. Due to lack of money and its maintenance, it began
to gradually fall into ruin.
In 2006-2007, with funding from the City of Szczecin, rose garden was
restored in the style of the thirties. Over nine thousand roses in 99 varieties were planted here. And stairs, walkways and
benches have a character of the green spaces in the beginning of the XX
century.
This place always reminds me on my Dendrology Class during my studies.
It should be mentioned that besides the great rose collection everybody can find also exotic trees and shrubs planted back in 30's, including Ohio buckeye, Amur cork tree or Serbian Spruce.
