Emma's Garden

I love to watch a costume movies.

I think I made this point clear.
I like to see how the producers transform the written content into reality. Like that.

Last weekend to improve my mood I watched adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma" from 2009.
I'm really amazed how they recreate an athmosphere of the regency time and gardens.

The producers chose the Squerryes Court for Hartfield because they thought it had a "open, well-lit, yet warm feeling."

Squerryes Court, Kent - originally owned by the de Squerie family. The house and gardens comes from end of 17th century and it was a typical house from the William and Mary era (1690s - 1702). The style used inspiration from the Renaissance's architecture together with influences from the Dutch and French Gardens.

The property has also 10 acres of gardens. The gardens were laid out in the formal style in 1700 but in the mid-18th century they were redesigned in a more natural style. After a large storm in 1987, owners decided to change the gardens back to its formal style, based on the plans from 1719.
